2018-03-16 Class Schedule Update

The March 2018 class is almost full, with only 8 seats remaining.  Due to poor enrollment the last two years, there will be no Fall class in 2018.

The 2019 Winter classes have been scheduled.

Currently scheduled classes:
March 24 & 31, 2018 (Maximum 30 students) 8 seats remaining (as of 3/16)
January 19 & 26, 2019 (Maximum 30 students)
March 2 & 9, 2019 (Maximum 30 students)

2017-12-21 DECEMBER COBA CHRISTMAS PARTY

The December COBA Meeting is really the COBA Christmas Party, and will be 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday December 21, 2017. Setup will begin at 6:00 PM.

This is the only COBA meeting NOT open to the public. It is for dues-paid COBA members only.

COBA buys very nice door prizes for the Christmas Party. However, members are still invited to bring a bee-related item for the door prize drawing.

The January meeting will include election of officers for 2018. All positions (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer) are needed, since none of the incumbents will be running for their current positions.

2017-10-27 OCTOBER COBA MEETING (ON FRIDAY)

The October COBA Meeting will be 7:00-9:00 PM FRIDAY October 27, 2017.

Our October meeting always moves to Friday, and will be followed by the Oklahoma State Beekeepers (OSBA) Fall Meeting at the same site all day Saturday, October 28th.

NOTE: The NW 36th St bridge over I-44 is OPEN again.

The main topic will be presented by Steven Coy, a second-generation commercial beekeeper and Russian queen breeder (among other things).
 
His topic for the evening will be “What Puts the Buzz in Coy Bee Company”.
 
Mr Coy will also be the primary speaker for the OSBA Fall Meeting Saturday 10/28. Saturday morning his topic is “Commercial Beekeeping with Russian Bees”. Saturday afternoon his topic is “An Overview of the Russian Honeybee Breeders Association”. Please see the OSBA website (okbees.org) for more information about Mr Coy and the Saturday meeting.

Pests and Diseases” presented by Rick Schantz.  As the bee’s population drops in preparation for winter, Small Hive Beetles, Varroa mites, and Wax Moths will take advantage of the weaker colony, if they can.  Don’t let them get yours!

Ken Davis will be speaking about the use of Essential Oils in beekeeping. He’ll also be giving an overview of the Apivox Auditor, which uses an old technique to monitor colony status, but implemented with current technology.
