Honey Tasting: Bring your honey and enjoy sharing in tasting other beekeepers’ honey. (You can sell some if you like.)

Tom Hall will give a demonstration of extracting a couple of frames. He’ll also present a couple of methods of uncapping your frames.

Rick Schantz will give video presentation of larger extracting methods.

A panel of “seasoned” beekeepers will handle open Q&A.

2019-05-19 – Hive Inspection, Nuc Install, and Mentoring Opportunity

DATE and TIME: Sunday 5/19, 2:00 PM to whenever you run out of questions.

LOCATION: Will Rogers Gardens, 3400 NW 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73112

Meet in the 36th street parking lot, NW of the building. We’ll go in through the small iron gate behind the dumpster.

If you have protective gear, please bring it. We’ll only have very limited loaner gear available.

AGENDA: John Bowman will be installing a nuc into his hive.

We will then inspect a double-deep from which we pulled 2 splits last week. We will do an alcohol-wash Varroa mite count. If mite counts indicate that treatment is needed, we will treat with Oxalic Acid administered via a vaporizer.

Q&A as long as needed.

2019-04-15 and 2019-04-17 Hive Inspection Opportunities

2019 COBA STUDENTS:

Because of schedule and weather issues, we haven’t yet gotten you into a hive. This is very unusual, and we’re sorry.

We are planning 2 opportunities this week, in the evening.

Monday 6:00 PM and Wednesday 6:00 PM at Will Rogers Gardens. (Same location you took the class.)

Meet in the 36th street parking lot, NW of the building. We’ll go in through the small iron gate behind the dumpster.

If you have protective gear, please bring it. We’ll only have very limited loaner gear available.

We’ll start at 6:00 PM, inspect a hive, then answer questions until you’re tired of it.

We WILL be having more opportunities on the weekends, but wanted to make something available ASAP.

Tanya Phillips of Austin TX.
A sideline beekeeper of 150 hives, teacher and author of several books that include
– Beekeeping in Guatemala
– Beekeeping in Ireland
– Beekeeping in China (in progress)
She has also written a book Beginning Beekeeping which she will have for sale.

Her Friday night COBA meeting topic will be:

Tanya Phillips Saturday OSBA meeting topics will be

Saturday’s session begins at 8:30am with doors opening for registration at 8am.

Lunch can be paid for at the registration desk. Several options will be available from Jason’s deli. Cost will be approx 10 dollars.
